Favorite recent sketch?
Kate’s necklace. At first, I barely noticed the sketch before the piece came to life. But when I saw the finished necklace and compared it to the original drawing, I was amazed by how perfectly the vision matched reality. I could hardly believe this was the work of a designer who had only recently joined the team. The way the colors and layout came together truly blew me away.
Recent inspirations?
→ Everyone at Spur knows I’m not much of a bookworm. My reading usually stops at machine manuals or catalogs—I’m a gadget geek through and through. But when my wife was away on business, I took my daughter to the local children’s bookstore. It’s not my usual hangout, but she had just started reading and wanted me by her side. We took turns with each page, finishing a short chapter book together. That night, after tucking her in, I dove back into work and saw my coworkers wrestling with a tough design challenge. I’m often the one who points out what won’t work, and sometimes I just want to scrap it all and start with new materials only, like I used to. But watching our team work through problems reminded me of my daughter’s curiosity as she learns. It struck me that we’re always inspiring each other, whether we’re reinventing the old or breathing new life into it.
Jewelry is….
A piece of jewelry lets you hold onto the emotions and memories of a moment for years to come. Not long ago, a client’s child made a simple rubber band bracelet and sent it to us along with her mother’s heirloom jewelry. I brought the bracelet home and gave it to my daughter. Now she treasures it, wears it, and is eager to figure out how to make one herself. Seeing this brings me so much joy in my work, and I hope that what we create as the Spur team brings that same happiness to everyone we make jewelry for.
You can never have enough….?
Support. Whether it comes from family or a colleague at work, it’s comforting to know you’re surrounded by people who care. Never take them for granted—remember to show your appreciation, too!
