On Buying Old Things and Meaning It

I have never once walked into a beautiful home and thought, wow, they must have spent a lot of money in here. The spaces I’m most drawn to look collected, a little lived in, like the person who lives there actually has a point of view and didn’t just hand it off to someone else to figure out. That’s what I’m going for, and honestly it’s more achievable than people think, especially if you’re willing to be a little patient!!

My starting point is always vintage.

The Long Beach Flea and the Rose Bowl are always worth the visit, but Facebook Marketplace and estate sales are where I’ve found some of my actual favorite pieces. I love an old object that already has a life to it that a brand new anything just can’t replicate, and the price difference is genuinely absurd once you get into it :)

I also really love vintage curators. You pay more, but you still get vintage, someone just already sorted through it for you. My go-to here is Olive Atelier, and if you live in LA, you must go to their showroom to really experience vintage furniture heaven.

That said, you’re not always going to find what you need secondhand, and that’s fine. The key is being discerning about what you buy new.
