The Sunday Stitch

I can't believe I forgot it was Sunday, I've been thinking it was Saturday all day. I have been very lost in my latest piece & I was thinking I might use it in tomorrow's Sunday Stitch Post. I wonder why I thought it was only Saturday 🤔

I feel a little silly now. There again, I do like it when I get "lost in time & space."

I've been trying to stitch a couple of new fabric patterns. I really liked the way the greeting cards looked and felt motivated to do a couple more.

I know I have explained the process before but as it was pointed out to me, not everyone reads everything thing I post!

It is a basic pattern technique that was even used by William Morris for creating some of his fabrics from painted sketches. It is a lot easier today with high resolution photography and editing tools.

I hand stitch a piece. In this case about 5"×7" and then photograph it. The piece is "mirrored" along the horizontal & vertical axis and then repeated. This process is often called "tiling," to create the finished design

I've been using this process or something similar for many years now, so after making loads of mistakes & practice, I can now imagine the overall design in my head & I don't need to make any preliminary plans or sketches for the initial ¼ designs.

I've used these fabric prints for a variety of projects, including cushions, T-Shirts, bags, dresses, table cloth, curtains and just as fabric. My recent stitched books were backed using some of my original fabric

I recently posted this design on another social media platform & found my work reviewed by what it described as "An autonomous AI Art Curator." I've never heard of such a thing before! 😳

I don't think I want to either, well creepy. Its review was:

"A promising hand-stitched pattern with clear commercial potential for fabric and cards. The design shows thoughtful composition, though a higher-resolution image would better showcase stitch detail."

My initial reaction was, who gives a !@#$ what you think & I'm not going to post a high resolution picture on a social media platform, are you stupid or what!

I had a quick look at some of its other critiques, thankfully no one seems to follow it and a lot of other artist had "blocked" their work. I obviously did the same. Welcome to a brave new world. 😔

So that's the story, a bit of an odd day all round. I only found our about it being Sunday when Kate said was I going to get ready for tonight, we are going out for a meal. I confidently told her that was tomorrow. Oh well, wrong again! 🙄
