The morning after the night before & it rained, I’m happy about that, the garden certainly benefited. Luckily on the night itself, it was fine & there was a considerable turnout for the West Cork Creates “Listen to the Land Speak” exhibition, a tribute to Manchán Magan.
The gallery Cnoc Bui, is around an hour from me, in the beautiful harbour village of Union Hall. It was lovely that the family came along to offer some support.
The gallery was so full of people and what with my immobility issues these days, I didn’t really get to have a look round till well after the speeches were over and the crowd thinned out.
Until then, I had to be content with balancing a glass of wine and peering through the window, while catching up with a few old friends.
My disguise failed to keep me incognito 🤭 I think my long white hair & beard might have given me away!
The exhibition is excellent, a cross between a very high end craft shop & a museum. There was such a diversity of work on display, with so many different mediums. Without doubt West Cork has more than its fair share of talented artists.
I was delighted to bump into Gerard O’Callaghan, who had some of his paintings on show. Gerard & I spent a year studying art & design, at the West Cork Campus a few years ago & I always have admired his work.
I found my 2 books & scroll in a glass cabinet beside Marika O’Sullivan’s jewelery. A Happy coincidence as Marika made a beautiful necklace for me and that Kate wears a lot.
I couldn’t possibly go through all the work here with 47 artists showing and with so many pieces attracting my attention. What a privilege to exhibit along side all of it.
For me it’s the culmination of 6 months work. I actually surprised myself as to how much stitching I was able to do. To all those who have shared a part of that journey here on FB and my other social media (Substack, Instagram & Bluesky), thank you so much for all your support & encouragement.
Exhibiting locally, was on my goal list for 2026. I’ve now managed to tick a number of things off that list this year and that helps me feel I’m making some kind of progress.
I have talked previously about how “finishing” a project often leaves me a little lost & disoriented. I accept it is something I need to just deal with.
I have a couple of interesting projects to work on now & a collaboration with one of my favourite young artists on Instagram. I’m sure you will hear more.
I only managed to take a few photos of the exhibition, but I am due to help out at the gallery later on and I hope to take a few more.
