Can you feel a shift in the zeitgeist?
A lot of obscure, low-status, unserious-sounding jobs … like content creator or newsletter publisher … are out-earning the prestigious professionals who look down on them.
And I’m so here for it.
I take wicked satisfaction in watching offended classists realise that the moral hierarchy they were raised with is no longer paying out the way they thought it would.
I have a huge soft spot for: domain flippers, ghostwriters, affiliates, faceless YouTubers, Etsy template makers, UGC creators, digital product people, junk removalists, pressure washers, pest controllers and self-storage owners.
The jobs that sound random, grubby or a bit silly are often the ones printing money.
There’s a famous example of someone buying cars.com domain name in 1998 for $16 a year, holding it for 16 years — a total cost of $256 — and then selling it to a corporation in 2014 for $872 million 🤯
Which is such a perfect reminder that money is not always a reward for noble effort, virtue, or even hard work.
Often, it comes from paying attention, spotting value early, and making a move before everyone else catches on.
That is how a lot of wealth works now.
Not through dutifully waiting your turn, but through noticing what other people dismiss.
If you want the kind of breakthrough that changes your life in one go — not just a marginal salary increase — you have to do what other people are not willing to do.
And that does not always mean working harder 😏 (thank god cause I’m tired).
Now is a very good time to invent a job for yourself, especially if you are a multipotentialite, a slash careerist, or someone who does not fit neatly into one box and has no desire to.
