Poor are those who do things for money

I want to share something that happened to me recently, because it clarified a belief I’ve always felt was true.

For the last 4 months, I had been doing a real estate job 3 days a week: selling properties over the phone, and doing viewings. There was a lot I liked about it, mainly because it fitted around my life rather than the other way round. I negotiated a good deal for myself: an hourly rate plus commission, as well as flexible days and hours.

It felt like salaried work on my own terms, which is rare enough to be worth appreciating.

Then the company hired a full-time employee, and my role became redundant.
