👋 Hej,

Let’s be honest: there is a narrative out there that once you hit 50, you’re supposed to become a passenger.

The world expects you to sit back, protect your territory, and wait for the dust to settle while the “innovators” take over. We are told to survive the change rather than drive it. We feel like we’re losing our relevance in a sea of new tools, younger bosses, and “disruptive” methodologies.

But here’s the thing: Experience is the ultimate filter for noise.

While tools and titles change, the fundamental physics of business and human behavior remain constant. You aren’t here to block progress; you are the bridge between the heritage of the company and its future.

To stay Simply Human and professionally dangerous in your 50s, you don’t need a new mindset—you need a set of actions. Clarity isn’t a thought; it’s a move.

Here are 5 actions to start doing today:

Don’t just read about AI or “vibe coding.” Open a cursor, prompt a simple tool, and build something that solves a personal friction point. The Action: Dedicate 30 minutes this week to creating one small automation or app. When a veteran leader is the first to adopt a new tool, it gives the rest of the organization permission to innovate.

New leaders often try to solve problems that were already addressed years ago. You aren’t there to say “we tried that”; you’re there to explain why it happened so it works this time. The Action: In your next meeting, when a “new” idea is proposed, don’t shoot it down. Instead, offer the historical context that makes the 2.0 version actually succeed.

Transformations create high levels of anxiety. Impact is found in being the calmest person in the room. The Action: Find a younger colleague who looks overwhelmed by the current reorganization. Offer them a 15-minute coffee—not to talk shop, but to provide the stability they lack. Influence at this stage is earned by being the person who keeps the team focused when the roadmap is blurry.

At 50, you see the “whole board,” not just a single square. You have the pattern recognition to see friction points before they become crises. The Action: Identify two departments that aren’t talking but should be. Facilitate a 10-minute introduction. Your value is no longer in doing the work, but in synthesizing the connections.

Curiosity does not have an expiration date, but it needs to be seen to be respected. The Action: Share a “Work in Progress” publicly—on LinkedIn or your internal Slack. Show that you are learning a new methodology. Doing it publicly is a power move; it proves that experience plus curiosity is an unbeatable combination.

The transformation is not happening to you. It is happening because of you.

Being 50 is not about surviving the change. It is about being the reason the change actually works. Don’t wait for a mindset shift. Just start doing.

Stay Human,
