Alva Barnfield, Puxico VFW July Veteran of the Month

Alva Barnfield graduated from Puxico High School in 1963.  While working for General Motors in St. Louis, Missouri, he was drafted in March 1967.

He trained in Fort Polk, Louisiana for combat infantry replacement for Vietnam.  He was sent to the 1st cavalry division (air mobile).  He then made over 125 combat air assaults. until he was wounded during an air assault and spent several weeks in a naval hospital in Da-nang.

Barnfield received the following medals: Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star with V., two air medals and the Vietnam Camp Medal.

Barnfield worked at Arvin Automotive's in Dexter, Missouri for 18 years.  He also worked at Mingo Job Corps for 10 years and served as the municipal judge in Puxico for 20 years.

He now lives in Jackson, Missouri with his wife Nancy.  They have been married 56 years and have three children and six grandchildren.  He attends Connection Point Church in Jackson and enjoys playing golf with his friend and neighbor, Pete Townsend.
