Every poem in Instar Hotel takes place at the same time, in a different room of the same hotel. The occupants are arthropod-people — a little like Gregor Samsa, except they’ve long ago adapted to their circumstances, or else were born that way, or else there is some other explanation. Below are some Insta posters I made to go with it. The photograph of artificial eyes in metal sockets was taken at Hospital de Bonecas (the Dolls Hospital) in Lisbon. I was there over the Easter break — alarming to think that I just haven’t had the time to post anything substantial to this Substack since before then, but a long essay and several shorter posts are on their way.
