Last week you mapped the territory. You looked at the different art worlds that exist and started asking which ones actually match your work and your goals. This week we go deeper. Into the work itself.
Because here’s something I’ve noticed after thirty years of working with artists. Most artists can describe their work. Very few actually understand it.
There’s a difference. Describing is what you put in the dropdown menu on an open call form. Understanding is knowing what your work is actually doing in the world, what it means, who it moves and why, what keeps showing up in it whether you intend it to or not.
You can’t find your place if you don’t know what you’re carrying.
