Last week, I set us a challenge to actually use our supplies — the unused tubes of paint, the unopened or rarely used watercolor crayons, the graphite sticks that have never been sharpened.
I’m happy to report back that I’ve spent all the intervening time happily playing with my rarely used watercolors, experimenting with graphite powder, and generally having some fun at the painty table!
I even filmed one of my experiments to share with you!

For this mixed media portrait, I used everything and the kitchen sink! — water soluble graphite powder, watercolors, color pencils, acrylics, and a sketch pen!
It was real fun playing with the water soluble graphite powder, and I loved the texture I managed to create with the watercolor using some salt and a spray bottle filled with water!
I really love the simplicity of this portrait, and it was such a fun process! I’m definitely going to be experimenting some more with this style!
