Tiny sparks of inspiration

I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time today morning laughing over this:

It has to be the bounciest accordion book, ever! I can’t seem to stop myself from making it bounce, every time I walk past my painty table.

I spent a happy few hours yesterday, putting this together. Some collage and a bit of gesso to prep the pages, and a cover cut out from a Lubabu blind box. I haven’t decided if I will decorate the covers, or let the Lubabu grace the front of the book, though I am leaning towards the latter.

What do you think?

I don’t know if you can tell from the video, but it’s quite a small little book — it fits into the palm of my hand. But I think it’s going to be the perfect little place to make a playful mess!

I haven’t felt particularly drawn to my sketchbook recently. It’s hard to explain, but it feels sort of grown up and boring!

As I was going through some of my junk journals yesterday, I remembered just how much I enjoyed painting in handmade journals that I put together with literal junk — brown paper bags, packaging paper, old book pages, under-paper from my painty table, failed gel prints.

So in a moment of inspiration, I decided to go tiny and put together this accordion journal. To give it a slightly grungier, sort of junk journal-y feel, I added in some collage and gesso across the pages.

I was considering adding some paints and scribbles too, but I prefer having a somewhat more neutral starting point for my art journals. This feels just perfect. I can riff off of what’s already on these pages, or just ignore it all and start from scratch.

Already, this little journal is bringing me so much joy! With its bounciness, yes, and also, I’m itching to start playing in it!

Sometimes all you need is the tiniest spark to get your creative juices flowing again!
