The poet Andrea Gibson died recently and the writing that has sprung up in the wake is astounding. Their wife Meg is posting through her grief and it’s astounding. Read her obituary and subsequent follow-up.
Absolution, Alice McDermott
A beautifully written tale of two military wives in Vietnam-era Saigon. It bounces between narratives a tad too much for my taste but the language more than makes up for it. She achieves a perfect balance of portraying the sticky, oppressive heat alongside the icy conservative demeanor of 1960s Americans.
