The first time I came to Pacentro, the garden caught my eye. I would wake up every morning and look out on the balcony towards this green space overflowing out onto stone walls.
It was wild - the most beautiful thing to me.
This abandoned garden would haunt me for years, feeling like this impossible project that would trap me in a cycle of endless yearning.
Finding a garden in the city walls of Pacentro is nearly impossible. Those plots are coveted and fiercely protected. You can imagine why once you see how most have their orto on the edges of the mountain. It is a luxury to have a small garden plot near your home instead of walking far to pick your tomatoes, grapes and zucchini.
