Across every field of research, there’s a quiet paradox.
We generate more data than ever before — yet most of it remains unseen, unused, and uncredited.
Out of every hundred datasets created, eighty never leave the lab.
Only four are ever reused.
And just one in a hundred truly drives new discovery.
That’s billions of dollars, decades of effort, and untold potential — lost to friction, complexity, and lack of recognition.
Those of us who have spent our careers building, sharing, and reusing data have felt this frustration firsthand.
The promise of open science has never been stronger — yet the practice of it remains too hard, too time-consuming, and too often unrewarded.
Over the past few years, a shared question has driven our work:
What would it take to make data sharing effortless — and valuable for everyone involved?
Imagine a world where:
Every dataset could be shared, discovered, and reused with confidence.
Credit and visibility flowed naturally to the people who made that possible.
Funders could see their investment multiply through reuse.
Policymakers could rely on trusted, transparent evidence.
That vision brought us here — to International Data Week 2025, where we launched a new platform built for the next generation of data stewardship.
At its core is Clara, an AI Data Steward that automates the hardest parts of FAIR data management — helping researchers curate, annotate, and prepare their datasets for reuse and recognition.
Over the last six months, we’ve been in a pilot phase, working closely with researchers, institutions, and funders who share this goal.
Their insights, feedback, and early showcases have already shaped the system — and there’s much more still to come as these stories emerge in the months ahead.
This is just the first step.
Our roadmap builds on this foundation — making data stewardship even easier, more powerful, and more rewardingfor everyone who contributes to discovery.
We’re proud to share this milestone here at IDW 2025, alongside the global community that has led the way toward open and FAIR science for years.
Because when data flows — across disciplines, borders, and institutions — science moves faster, collaboration deepens, and impact grows.
This is what it means to unleash science.
