It has been some time since we last released a Substack post. We dropped the ball recently on several occasions. I know it isn’t like a priority to send out posts/emails all the time, but if we want to promote and be heard, we kind of need to do that, and well, we didn’t.
That isn’t what this is about, though…
See, we sent out a Substack post during the prelaunch of our INK: The Trade Kickstarter. We did well in the prelaunch stage of the project. So well, in fact, we got the most prelaunch followers to date for ourselves. Every other project before it was only a few here and there, but the last one was 100+ followers.
Now, followers don’t exactly mean they are a guaranteed backer of your project, but it is a nice statistic to have.
We knew what we just said was a fact from the start: “Not every follower is a guaranteed backer.” That wasn’t our problem with the campaign we just finished Halloween morning. No, we did many things wrong, which is crazy to think because we have been doing this for years now, and every creator makes a mistake here and there, but the promotion during the campaign was such a small percentage that we have no one to blame but ourselves.
We could say that October had a record of comic kickstarters live at one time. That is a 100% fact, too! That is amazing that there are so many creators, new & old, releasing new comics into the world. However, we dropped the ball with promoting the Kickstarter besides in FB groups and sending it to our email list.
What I am really saying is that we will be relaunching our trade paperback for INK this month, and the promotion will be back to our standards like previous campaigns. We also lowered the goal, as that was another obstacle we were trying to overcome.
This trade is so important to us because INK was our 1st released comic, and now it is our 1st released trade! The story that started it all for us is the story that brings us to this point in our creative journey!
