Scribendi Mag, Nic Hinson · Scribendi

Volume 39 has been a whirlwind of wonder, amazement, utter frustration, and collective accomplishment. I know it’s one of the deadly sins, but if this doesn’t call for pride, what possibly could?

The excellent work of Scribendi’s contributors, designers, copyeditors, public communicators, event coordinators, and a general multitude of all-around creative, competent people has finally coalesced into a magazine that will hold a sacred space on my shelf and (hopefully) the shelves of many others. Hope of all hopes, this blessed cycle will turn again, and Volume 40 will materialize in a similar concoction of blood (in a good way), sweat (gross), and (happy) tears.

It’s The University of New Mexico Honors College’s nationally-acclaimed student magazine, with hard work and many late nights, and the newest issue is now available in both digital and physical copies. If you happen to be on or around The University of New Mexico campus next fall, swing by the Scribendi office in the Honors College to grab a physical copy for free. If you’re not near UNM but still want a physical copy, it’s available to be ordered online for a $10 minimum donation to cover shipping.

Scribendi uplifts student photographers, visual artists, authors, and poets by offering them a foothold in the inner sanctum of published creatives. It can also serve as a jump-start to an internship or career by offering its student staff experience at an accredited magazine. Aside from the more practical, sales-pitch-type-benefits, Scribendi is invaluable purely because it serves as an avenue for worthy art to make its way into the world.

Absolutely, yes! If you are an undergraduate student enrolled in any honors program at any university, you are eligible to submit your work to Scribendi. Submissions are free, the magazine will be sent to you for free (for free!) if you are accepted, and there are cash prizes for best-of-category. The deadline is October 10th, 2025, and if you are eligible, there’s no reason not to submit. For more information about submission categories and criteria, see our website:

Every year, Scribendi optimizes the approach to its workload thanks to the constant new stream of input from incoming staff and editors. Trust, the incoming editors and faculty advisor will do everything in their power to make the transition into Scribendi-hood as smooth as possible. Still, even with four decades of self-improvement, it’s going to be a lot. It will require dedication and engagement. You will have to rely on each other to make Volume 40 a reality—perfectionists beware.

I promise (pinky-swear) that it will be worth it. The friendships forged, skills learned, and magazines created will last, and will become a source of self-assurance. Capable, multifaceted, wonderfully creative people, you can do this!

Scribendi, as a nonprofit, prides itself on its ability to spread art far and wide minus the monetary barrier-of-entry. To keep this up, Scribendi needs donors. If you want to support student creatives, aspirational publishing powerhouses, and help relieve the massive headache continually inflicted on our fundraising team, consider donating. If you love Scribendi, Scribendi will love you back (read: continue to exist):
