The subtlety of thee, my company, In silent reverie among these pines, Where muted snow now blankets ev’ry tree, And candlelight illumes our warm confines, I glance above the page of my Thoreau, To spy upon the fantasy of you, Where fire light hath cast a thoughtful glow, Upon my love engrossed in her haiku, And in that moment in this cabin still, Your dark myster’ous eyes rise from that page, And where they meet the gaze of mine, we fill Those cracks and all the worries we assuage, For in the threads of quiet we do weave, The understanding we shall e'er conceive. - SCOTT ALEXANDER MCKENZIE
