World Cup 2026 has been amazing.
Many great teams, great games, great stories, great goals, and great drama. Even a wacky government intervention on a red card or whatever that was all about.
But before the FIFA World Cup final match is even played, I think we already have the most incredible and surreal story of the entire tournament, regardless of who wins.
Once upon a time twenty years ago, there was a UNICEF charity photo shoot in Barcelona, Spain.
Families all across the nation entered a contest for the opportunity to have their babies photographed with Barcelona soccer players.
Among others, the contest organizers selected a chubby six-month-old baby named Lamine.
Little Lamine had little to no idea what was going on at the time, of course, but he got to take a bath in front of everybody and have his photo taken with the relatively new Barcelona player, 20-year-old Lionel Messi. Which sounds like a scene from an Adam Sandler film, but I assure you, it really happened.
