Bear with me.
It is a bit shaky yes, and I haven’t fully formed it as an idea.. but it just popped in my head the other day.
I feel like tradwives and the whole vibe of them is the equivalent to manospheres for men.. except both of them seem quite solidly based on patriarchy, misogyny and capitalism.
Interesting no?
I was watching Louis Theroux’s documentary “Manosphere” (you can fully expect this to show up on future Things post), then later, I read “Yesteryear”, the book by Caro Claire Burke, and it clicked that they’re both selling the same thing, but packaged differently to attract men or women.
Similarities:
Based on the patriarchy - men are in charge, women are not
All about who has financial control - men have the money, women don’t bother themselves with it (ironic, if you think about the $$ tradwives make)
Both put men on a pedestal
Both talk about roles for each gender and enforcing it
Selling an unattainable lifestyle - men have to exit the “matrix” to be their true selves, and women have to exit the capitalist society that forces women to work so they can be their true selves
Both degrade being a woman versus being a man
Both have a large following of people who believe the tripe and follow it like a cult
Anyway, just something that occurred to me as I was watching/reading.
Thoughts?
Until next time,
Sherry
