I shot this self portrait in 2017 in my parents’ house as part of my series Identity Crisis. I had my aunt’s quintessential 80s dress (which I loved despite the fact that it was too small to zip), a poorly styled wig, some aluminum cans, and a pageant queen dream. And a little Scotch tape for my nose!
I had never given myself the challenge to make myself laugh with a picture until this period of time—2017 was a fruitful year! I was falling in love with drag, Amy Sedaris, and collage, and I feel like that cocktail of inspiration appears CRYSTAL CLEAR in this absurd photo.
Every month or two I’ll send a photo from my archive with some context about why I made it and where it led me. Thanks for being here!
