10 years of drag photos

In college I took a great class called The Fabricated Image, taught by Suellen Parker Shockley. The only rule for the projects we turned in was that there had to be a photograph in them, somehow. I made all kinds of crazy stuff in that class—pillows printed with photos of a drag queen’s leg, my first pop up dioramas, and heavily annotated journal entries detailing how I made a piece of work.

I shot this self portrait in 2017 in my parents’ house as part of my series Identity Crisis. I had my aunt’s quintessential 80s dress (which I loved despite the fact that it was too small to zip), a poorly styled wig, some aluminum cans, and a pageant queen dream. And a little Scotch tape for my nose!
