Let’s slow down for a minute friend. Think of the Thursday Edit as your notes on intentional style, a simple recipe that will make your weeknights easier, encouragement in motherhood, and weekly reminder to embrace life after 40 with confidence, grace, and purpose.

If Instagram is the Pinterest board of my thoughts, this is where we sit down with a cup of coffee.

I want you to feel every Thursday like you’re getting a voice memo from the stylish friend who helps you slow down and remember what actually matters.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Pour yourself a soothing beverage. We’re in no rush.

This is not my first pregnancy rodeo, it’s my fourth. Although things are hitting differently this time around (probably because I'm in my 40’s). I knew to expect changes in my body shape and stamina, but ooph - it’s been a doozy especially in my third trimester. I’m just tired and feel puffy at the end of a long day.

My ultimate goal has been to not buy a lot of “maternity” pieces for this short season and try to be intentional about buying pieces that I can wear now, and then postpartum to get the most bang for my buck. To be an outfit repeater and wear the heck out of a few great pieces I love, instead of buying a lot of the “maybe’s” just in case, then not wearing them. These are the expensive mistakes I made in the past with my other pregnancies and buying things on impulse.

Our little surprise blessing will be joining us in October, and these are the pieces that have been saving me in my “what do I wear” moments the past few months.

Maternity Staples Capsule

*Only three of these pieces in the capsule are actually “maternity” (the 2 white tops, and one pair of maternity jeans) everything else is non- maternity. I just went up a size (or a few) to fit. These silhouettes are very forgiving if you’re looking for tummy disguising fits.

*A side note, I realize most of you can’t relate to being pregnant in your 40’s and the challenges that come with getting dressed with a growing baby bump, breasts and diminishing confidence. But I do know that you can probably relate to body changes in perimenopause, menopause and beyond, especially in the tummy area. Things don’t quite look the same as they once did as we age. So this dressing approach works for any life stage of body changes, along with a HUGE dose of grace for loving the body God’s given us, right where we are.

The best fall trends aren’t the ones that make you feel like you need a whole new wardrobe. They’re the ones that make what you already own feel fresh again.

This is where we add the style & are the finishing touches that make your basics feel current, elevated, and a little more exciting to wear. It’s the trends.

Here’s where I’d start.

  1. These dark wash jeans are the perfect mix of classic and modern. The darker wash looks polished but effortless and they’re are such a flattering fit. Dress them up or down. If I had to pick one investment pair to own, it would be these.

  2. A statement jacket that makes every outfit look styled and acts like a top. This is where fall outfits get fun. This is a great jacket with a little more weight (if you live where it will get cooler in the fall).

  3. Loafers are the easiest swap when you want your outfit to feel more pulled together than sneakers. I bought this pair of loafers last month and have been wearing on repeat because they’re so comfortable.

  4. Track pants are the new leggings! They’re comfortable. They’re practical. They actually make sense for mom life. But the key is styling them with pieces that add polish — like a cashmere sweater, a crisp button-up, loafers, or a structured bag.

That’s how they go from “I just threw this on” to “effortless but intentional.”

Embracing this new season of life as my three older kids are not so little anymore. We’re entering the teen and tween years, while simultaneously re-entering the new born phase soon, and it has really caused me to sit with my emotions and be ok, with not being ok. Change can be hard. The back to school season always comes with lots of change, whether you’re dropping your baby off to kindergarten or college, it’s a season of changes and that’s hard. I’m learning that I don’t need to have it all together, and it’s ok to be sad. It’s ok to feel a little lost in the uncertainties. Some day’s all you can do is the next right thing. Don’t worry about tomorrow, but just focus on what you need to do today.

I’m cheering you on friend if you are walking through a new season of life right now. Embrace the messiness and know that you are not alone :)

I’m making this family favorite recipe, for my daughter’s birthday this week. Shepard’s pie her favorite and always a crowd pleaser. This also tastes even better the next day as leftovers (breakfast or lunch), so I usually double the recipe so that we have lots of leftovers.

Until next Thursday…

I hope getting dressed feels just a little easier this week.
