Mallorca is an island of duality: It relies on the tourists it resents. Its beaches are famous, but its mountains are where the island actually breathes. And it has a reputation for full-bodied red wines—the island’s native grapes, however deliver fresher, more elegant wine.

This turn toward fresher wines made from native grapes wouldn’t have been possible without natural winemaker Cati Ribot. So, on a recent two-week vacation with my husband and daughter, I knew stopping at Cati’s was a non-negotiable. We stayed in the mountain town Bunyola, which I’d recommend to anyone craving a break from city noise. I felt deeply connected to local mallorquín culture—saying Buenos Dias to everyone you pass is a must.
