This week has been pretty wild. After releasing on Twitter and Hackernews, and getting a bit of traction/views, I began working on wrappers for Surfer. Started with building Spotify wrapped for everything, then moved to YouTube, and then moved to Twitter Bookmarks. Bookmarks is pretty much done, but Chrome needs to approve it. Sigh.
For fun, I decided to post Surfer as an open-source personal data warehouse on HN. It got a bit of traction in the beginning maybe 30 upvotes and the repo hit 1,000 stars which was cool. But then the floodgates opened. Because some mod / inside person / Paul Graham somehow boosted my post and Surfer landed on the frontpage of HN. Again.
From there, it’s been crazy as we now have 1,200+ stars and counting and the launch video has 1,000+ views which is insane. This shows that people really mess with the idea and also gives me motivation to continue working on it.
Other than Bookmarks wrapped, I began making the MCP server yesterday. It wasn’t too too hard and for some reason it uses uv instead of pip as the package manager which caused some issues. Anyway, I got it running and added chromadb as a vector database, with metadata filtering. What this means is I can ask Claude to search my Twitter Bookmarks for something and Notion for something or my LinkedIn Connections…and it will do that. Pretty sick.
This also means I don’t have to make a Chat UI myself because Claude is already there which is very nice.
Anyways, gotta get back to the grind I’ll be cooking on cool thing and shipping them, so stay tuned. Peace.
