I grew up seven houses up the street from the Dobsons when they lived in Arcadia. And it’s because of that experience that I never bought what Focus on the Family was selling, even while I was a fanatically devoted christian. I don’t want to give all the details of what we knew, but I wanted to hop on with Priska to talk about our reaction today. We especially wanted to honor the survivors of the worst of Dobson’s teachings who endured unthinkable abuse, who were shamed for being queer, or who hated themselves for being human. It’s less a celebration and more of a sad, angry exhale of relief.
