Iceland has around 21 hours of daylight during July, and it absolutely baffles me that though it’s peak season and full of tourists, almost no one is taking advantage of it. Unfortunately when we were over there it was very overcast, so other than one brief evening, we didn’t get to fully experience the midnight sun phenomenon this time. However, it was still bright enough and so my boyfriend and I did what I did when I solo travelled last year, we destroyed our sleeping patterns, and stayed awake most nights until around 4am.
When we drove past Skogafoss on our way to Vik at around 2pm, you could see thee rainbow of different coloured raincoats all climbing up and down the metal staircase to the left of the enormous waterfall from the ring road which is about 1km away. So we carried on driving and decided we’d return on our way back that night, whenever that may be. It turned out to be midnight, after a delicious dinner at Black Crust Pizza and a visit to Dyrhólaey to spot puffins. Though it was still bright, there were barely any people there which meant we got tourist free photographs '(great for me!) and the ability to get soaked and take our time. We had the same with Seljalandsfoss which is just a short drive east. So, here is my gallery from one afternoon along the south coast of Iceland.
