This past weekend, as the US marked the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, many celebrations were cancelled due to severe weather, and a power outage affecting nearly one million Americans. Where the annual tradition of backyard BBQs carried on, inflation was still a factor. Over the past ten years, the cost of a basket of BBQ staples rose 48.4% outpacing the 39.5% cumulative rise in the overall Consumer Price Index (CPI). The largest drivers of higher BBQ costs has been the price of steak and ground beef which rose 65% and 75% respectively.
