Riss M Neilson · my part of the deal <3

Hi, hello <3

First, a moment for my finished copies 🥹

Onward to Housekeeping:

It’s been such a busy few weeks and I had all the plans to write fun newsletters but it might have to wait until after my mini tour. With only thirteen days until The Bridge Back to You comes out, I have some updates that I wanted to share for it

My launch party with Carissa Broadbent on the 31st is now being held at Public Shop & Galley with Riffraff Bookstore still hosting.

Shirlene Obuobi will now be in conversation with Azanta and me at Lovestruck books on the 1st of April.

Jess Lee will be my new in conversation partner for my Saturday 4/4 at 4 (✨) event in Providence.

Here’s my full tour card if it helps:

A couple of these events are almost sold out so get your ticket soon if you want to come hang with me and my lovely friends in person <3

All tickets can be found here

My preorder campaign is still open. I’m just finishing up the bonus chapters and can’t wait to share them. Don’t forget to fill out this form if you preorder or buy a ticket to one of my events, so you can read more from A Love Like the Sun and Bridge!

I’ll also be an attending author at the LA Times Festival of Books which still feels like a dream. I’ll be signing at three different bookstore booths (details coming soon) and I have a panel with authors I adore:

Ready for Rambling?

Now that the housekeeping is out of the way, I want to admit how damn nervous I am for this books release. I’ve never been on a tour, even if this one is small, and I am so so excited to meet with readers, but I just hope it all goes well and people have fun🤞🏽.

I’ve been repeating therapy talk to myself: “the future is where anxiety dwells, the present is where you need to live,” but easier said than done 😅

I’ve been running around, trying to pick decent outfits. At first, I was going to only dress like my books theme (pinks and purples) but I keep gravitating toward Black, so we shall see how that plays out. I want to have everything picked and planned ahead of time though because I am so bad at being last minute. Tbh, even when I plan ahead, I’m one of those people who change shit up right before. Meaning, I’ll tear through my closet and drawers and change 5x only to be 10 minutes late when I started getting ready hours early before having to run back inside because I forgot lipgloss or my purse or a coat, then later I’ll come home to a nightmare of a room haha. But if you’re like me, this produces a ton of anxiety, so I’m hoping to avoid that by sticking to my decisions. Even if it means having the five outfits for the tour stops and deciding which one I’m wearing that day (trying to be realistic here).

(photo to break up the post & because I dyed my hair back dark. I’ll miss the reddish color but I only liked it sometimes)

Other than the small things AND getting every item on my daily list checked off before the 31st, I feel particularly nervous about The Bridge Back to You being in the world. This was the hardest time I’ve ever had with getting another book out, while also having to write it on a tight schedule, and some small part of me just wants to pretend I have more time with these characters and their love story and the universe in which I’ve created for them. But perfection is perception based and no book is for everyone and this one is for the readers now, which means I can only make wishes for its success.

So here are my wishes:

That the foodies have fun with this one. I hope it makes y’all hungry, drool. I hope it makes you want to eat Filipino and Dominican and Cape Verdean food. I hope it makes you want to come to Rhode Island and try all of the restaurants I mentioned.

I hope that Carmello’s story will help readers with OCD feel more seen and that Olivia’s journey with Endometriosis will do the same.

I wish that anyone who’s grieving a loved one can feel the lasting love in these pages and take even a small bit of comfort from it <3

I hope Carmello is the hot single dad I intended him to be, even with all of the shit he has going on haha.

I have more wishes for it, but I’m going to stop there because let me not get greedy now.

& I’ll leave you with this beautiful art of Carmello & Olivia that I haven’t revealed on my socials yet. I hope you like it!

xo
