Dear Frequent Readers,
First, I am sharing a link to a meeting announcement and preliminary agenda. The idea is to organize a meeting, in real life and online (a.k.a. a hybrid meeting)) to discuss the following question.
What can an individual human being do to help address the toxic partisanship that has infected and divided Americans politically? What can we — you and I — do to make things better?
Here is a link to the document.
My hope is that a dozen or so people will raise their hands by sending me an e-mail message. I’ll use some kind of meeting organizer tool to find a good date and time. We’ll get together in person and virtually to talk about the question and figure out what, if anything, we can do.
This stuff is really complicated. That’s important. That’s something we can talk about. Politicians like to talk about simple solutions to complicated problems. build a wall. Kill the Grand Ayatollah. Paint the reflecting pool bottom blue.
I think we need to embrace the idea that real solutions to big problems require time, expertise, testing, examining the results, iterating the design, more testing and more evaluation. Real solutions to real problems also require people to work together — you and me in a meeting — Republicans and Democrats in Washington, D.C.
I’m hoping to engage people from all along the political spectrum — this isn’t just for poor Dummycrats like me. Let’s talk. Let’s consider the possibility mere mortals — caring human beings — can still make a difference in the United States of America.
Anon.
