It’s July in Oklahoma, and it’s dang hot. I saw on the news that it’s likely hot where you are, too. “Experts” have suggested a specific number to set your thermostat to during this heatwave. And they’re wrong.

For optimal comfort and efficiency during a heat wave, set your thermostat to the highest temperature you find comfortable, typically between 75–78°F.

The number is up to 78?! Yeah, no. These guys warn that cranking it way down to cool the house faster wastes energy and beats up the unit. Guess I’ll keep it cold all the time. You know, to not beat up my unit.

I was reading about the efficient use of our AC units, and the algorithm must have noticed. Amazon sells a prefabricated pool. Not a kiddie pool. A real, luxurious-looking, shipping-container pool that shows up ready to drop in your yard. It looks A LOT like the pool I just used in a Santa Fe hotel! Amazon makes it possible to buy a prefabricated pool that’ll look luxurious in your backyard. There’s none of the complicated construction that comes with installing an ordinary pool. These shipping container pools can be placed above ground, in ground, or on a sloped landscape to give the illusion of a built-in pool. You can even put the pool in a deck or on a roof—it can even be moved at the end of the season. The best part? They can be completely customized to fit your space and style. On a roof? I had to read that again. I have a slanted roof and zero budget for a pool, but MUCH respect to this timeline. One where we can buy a pool wrapped in an Amazon box, and market it as having a rooftop option.

@rex YEP ???? (We like it around 70-72 but our house has uneven cooling/heating)

@rex As someone in a poorly insulated house with an older unit, I get where they're coming from, but not in how they're getting at it. I'll often watch the indoor temp climb and climb and climb and get to 78 and I just give up and set it to 78 at that point. ????
