Christopher Lippitt

" Christopher Lippitt was born in Rhode Island in 1744. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Colonel of a regiment and marched his yeoman troops to the battlefield. He subsequently entered the Continental Army. He was raised to the rank of Brigadier and fought bravely at Harlaem Heights, White Plains, Trenton, and Princeton. He received the high commendation of Washington for his zeal, courage, and uniform, consistent course. He was elected governor of his native state before the close of the war and was several times called out to repel the invading foe. He was always at the

post of duty and knew no fugitive fear. He acted a noble part in the drama of life, and when the curtain of death closed upon him, he was ready. He died at Cranston, Rhode Island, in 1824."
