Let me be direct.
This Substack is not the school.
It is a bridge.
A way of staying connected while we are scattered — across countries, across schedules, across very different lives. It allows something to continue between moments of meeting. It keeps a thread alive.
But it is not the thing itself.
A School of Perception — or a School of Western Mysteries, however we want to name it — cannot remain in writing.
Not if we are serious.
Because this work is not about ideas alone. It is not about opinions, nor about collecting perspectives. It is about training perception in a way that changes how reality appears.
And that requires presence.
It requires people in one place. Time that is not rushed. Shared attention. Friction. Silence. Misunderstanding. Correction. Breakthrough. The slow forming of trust.
You cannot do that in a newsletter.
So the real question is not whether this should become physical.
The real question is:
how do we actually make that happen — with real people, in a real place, starting now, not in some distant future?
Because everything is against it.
Time is scarce. Travel is complicated. Lives are full. People hesitate to commit. And without a core group, nothing stabilises.
So if this is to become real, it needs a beginning that is not perfect — but actual.
I have one.
In June, I will be at “Quellhof” in Kirchberg an der Jagst, in Germany. The place is beautiful, quiet, and entirely suited to this kind of work. The seminar is already set up.
But until recently, I had not fully seen it for what it could be.
This could be the moment where we stop talking about a “school” — and begin one.
Not by announcing it.
By doing it.
By gathering a small group of people who are willing to take this seriously for a few days.
To work intensely.
To step out of passive consumption and into shared practice.
To test whether what we are circling around here actually holds when we are together.
This is not about attending a workshop.
It is about forming something.
A field of work that is non-hierarchical, but not vague. Open, but not loose. Grounded in perception, but reaching towards something that is, quite simply, more alive, more truthful, more generous than the way we are currently organised.
Practically, this means moving between:
direct perception and careful description
shared exercises in landscape and place
conversation that is allowed to slow down
moments where understanding emerges, rather than being delivered
And also allowing the deeper questions to be present:
What draws you to the Western Mysteries?
Where does this sense of connection or longing come from?
In what way are you already part of this stream?
This is not a hierarchical teaching format.
But it is also not a loose circle without direction.
It asks for responsibility from everyone present.
For attention. For honesty. For a willingness to contribute — not only to take.
In that sense, it is an experiment in working together.
And perhaps also an experiment in whether something like a school can arise without becoming rigid.
The seminar will be in German.
And this Substack is in English.
So there will be a certain friction.
But I have come to value this.
Working bilingually slows things down. It makes speech more careful, listening more awake. Meaning has to be carried, not assumed.
What may feel like an obstacle can also become part of the method.
The intention is not only this one weekend.
The intention is to see whether a group can form that wants to meet again.
Not fixed. Not closed.
But with a certain continuity.
An annual meeting. A returning practice. A shared path that deepens over time.
Something that grows not by plan, but by commitment.
If you read this and feel something like:
“Yes — this should exist.”
Then don’t just agree quietly.
Come.
Come to this meeting in June.
Let’s use it as a first, real attempt at what this school could be. Let’s see what happens when we actually sit in one room, walk the same paths, look at the same things, and refuse to stay on the surface.
This is not for everyone.
But it might be for you.
And if a small group gathers there with the right intention, then something can begin that no amount of writing could ever produce.
Something with weight.
Something that continues.
Something that might, over time, become what we have only been hinting at so far.
I am serious about this.
And if something in you recognises the call — or if you feel a hesitation and want to understand it — I would be glad to hear from you, and even more glad to meet you there.
With warmth,
Renatus
