One night, his teacher—an old man with ink‑stained fingers—hands him a small scroll.
“Read this,” he says. “But not with your eyes.”
On the scroll is a single line:
As above, so below.
Aion frowns. “What does it mean?”
The old man smiles the way teachers smile when they know the answer will take a lifetime.
“It means,” he says, “that the universe is not out there. It’s in you.”
That was Hermeticism’s first lesson.
Aion learns that the scroll’s wisdom comes from Hermes Trismegistus, the mythic sage who was said to be “thrice great”—great in wisdom, great in magic, great in the mysteries of the soul.
People didn’t worship Hermes.
They trusted him.
He was the kind of figure who appears in every generation:
the quiet thinker, the one who sees patterns others miss, the one who believes the world is more alive than it looks.
Hermes taught that:
The cosmos is a living mind.
Humans carry a spark of that mind.
Knowledge isn’t memorized—it’s remembered.
Hermeticism wasn’t a religion.
It was a relationship—between the seeker and the universe.
Centuries later, three anonymous writers tried to capture Hermes’ teachings in a book called The Kybalion. It wasn’t ancient, but it carried the same heartbeat.
It said:
Everything is mind.
Everything is vibration.
Opposites are the same thing at different speeds.
Rhythm governs all things.
Gender exists in every creative act.
Aion would have loved it.
It’s the kind of book you read when you’re trying to understand why your life swings between extremes, why people change, why you change, why the world feels like a mirror.
When Aion grows older, he becomes fascinated by the alchemists—those strange men and women who spent their lives heating metals, distilling vapors, scribbling symbols that looked like constellations.
People said they were trying to turn lead into gold.
But Aion notices something:
The best alchemists aren’t obsessed with wealth.
They’re obsessed with purity, clarity, transformation.
One night, he asks an elderly alchemist, “Why lead? Why gold?”
The alchemist laughs softly.
“Lead is the part of you that is heavy,” he says.
“Your fear. Your anger. Your old wounds.”
“And gold?”
“Gold is what happens when you stop running from yourself.”
He taps Aion’s chest.
“Alchemy is not about metals. It’s about vibration. Raise the vibration of the lead inside you, and it becomes gold.”
Aion realizes the furnaces were metaphors.
The crucibles were metaphors.
The metals were metaphors.
The real material was always the human being.
Throughout history, Hermeticists were rarely kings or generals.
They were the quiet rebels—the thinkers who refused to accept the world at face value.
Zosimos, who wrote about alchemy as a purification of the soul.
Ficino, who translated the Hermetic texts and believed music could heal the spirit.
Agrippa, who saw magic as the study of nature’s hidden architecture.
Paracelsus, who healed bodies by healing the “inner star” within each person.
John Dee, who believed mathematics was the language of angels.
Giordano Bruno, who saw the universe as infinite because consciousness is infinite.
They weren’t chasing power.
They were chasing understanding.
When Aion is old, he writes his own scroll.
On it, he writes:
“The universe is a conversation.
Every thought is a reply.”
He finally understands what his teacher meant.
Hermeticism isn’t a doctrine.
It’s a way of noticing:
The way your mood changes the room.
The way your thoughts change your body.
The way your inner world shapes your outer world.
The way healing yourself heals your relationships.
The way raising your vibration raises your life.
Lead becomes gold every time you choose:
compassion over bitterness
curiosity over fear
awareness over reaction
creation over destruction
love over self‑protection
Hermeticism is the story of a human being learning to become lighter, brighter, truer.
It’s the story of Aion.
It’s the story of Hermes.
It’s the story of anyone who has ever looked at their life and whispered,
“I know there’s more than this.”
