Peace. Say the word softly and slowly, and you actually feel at peace.
Peace doesn’t mean nothing bad is going on in your life. It doesn’t mean everything stays calm all the time. It doesn’t even mean the absence of being at war with anyone.
True peace is found in that quiet place within. It’s a calm that doesn’t depend on what anyone else says or does or thinks about us.
It’s that peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace the world can’t give or take away. The best way to find it is to pause and breathe it in, especially when the world around you is in turmoil.
On retreat I discovered this song by Carey Landry a great comfort: “Peace is flowing like a river, flowing out of you and me, flowing out into the desert, setting all the captives free.”
Let go of what troubles you and fall into peace. Be like a leaf that simply bounces along the waves, without any resistance, floating past the chaos to find calm waters.
Question to ask myself:
What is troubling my heart right now?
Affirmation to repeat:
Peace is an inside job. It is a gift that I can give myself right here, right now.
Action to take:
At the end of each day, empty all your fears and troubles into a journal, then place your hand over them, surrender them, and give tomorrow a clean slate.
