My son Sol helped me pick which outfit photos to post on here for this week. He told me he doesn’t like look two and look one is his favorite. He also loves wearing my shoes and bags which is so fun to watch. He can tell getting dressed is important to me and he likes to get involved when I am getting dressed. I often think about how I grew up in a household with creative parents. My mom is extremely crafty and my dad always painted and drew. Something my dad always said was “an artist makes art” and I think about that often.
You don’t have to be the best to make art you just have to make it. I think that also goes along with getting dressed. Everyone has different style and perspectives so to some people you may have good style and to some you may have bad style but as long as you feel good that’s what matters. Sometimes I overthink looks knowing many people will perceive them but I am usually confident when I know I truly love the look. All that to say, wear what you love and you will always feel good about it.
I can’t stop sneaking sweaters into my looks recently. Obviously I can’t wear them but a little layering with a sweater is always a go to for. I tied this Ganni sweater in the back and just buttoned on button in the front. Kind of a fun way to add another layer and kind of takes place of a belt. I added my favorite Codera button down and these long Posse shorts. I then added my favorite flip flop heels and a little brown bag. I feel like a bag like this just gives off a sophisticated look and makes me feel like I am more put together than I am.
Now to Sols least favorite look. I love this little jacket that is just a vintage wool jacket that I realized you can find so many second hand ones just like this. It is by Geiger tyrol you can find red, green, navy ones on pretty much every resale site. I really like how structured it is. It is a fun jacket to wear with jeans or like sporty shorts. I am wearing my favorite Levi 501s. Everyone should have one pair of these that you absolutely love and can always fall back on when you want to throw on a look. I added the necklace I can’t stop wearing and some little black and white crochet flats by Lanvin. I also liked the idea of adding the LL.Bean bag to make it feel more casual and I realized I like green and navy as a new color combo I might reach for.
A look that I put on and immediately felt good in. Sometimes I think too much color or too much pattern can lean a little too quirky but also when done right it can be so good. To me I feel like these are such understated pattens that they work well together. The hat and the bag can be bright colors because the patterned pieces are neutral colorize. I recently saw Madeline (madforit) talk about how color isn’t scary because when done right it doesn’t feel like too much. It is always about a balance of not leaning too far one way.
I call this look a fancy little top and little white shorts. I love the juxtaposition of a more “fancy” top and running shorts. I know we see that everywhere this summer but I just love things that don’t make sense at first glance but then work so well. Something that makes you feel like you're breaking the rules but there are no rules when you get dressed. So have a ball!
Thank you for taking the time to read this as always! Enjoy your weekend. xx
