Speedgoat Prep: Last Active Heat Training and Shoe Test July 18. I ended up with bruised heels after the Snowbird Weekly Race on Wednesday. I went shoe shopping, last minute, and ended up in the Hoka Stinson 7. They are an ugly off-white blotched color so were in the clearance bin. Lucky me. But I wanted to test them out on a rough downhill course, and Morgan/Heiselt were totally the choice for me. I used to do this a lot more frequently, and in fact did a quad Morgan early in my training for Speedgoat. So how did it work? Well I got good and hot (still recovering btw) and the shoes worked great. I think the big blocks with smaller lugs work well for my style, such as it is. I even did a PR on the descent of Heiselt. I went a bit past the "Hollow Mile" Strava segment, but there are a handful of overlapping segments here so just about anything works.
