How do I find out which bluetooth codecs are supported by my computer's bluetooth adapters?

What utilities can I used to find out which bluetooth codecs are supported by my computer's bluetooth adapters? When it connects to a sound output device how do I tell which codec is in use, and how it was negotiated?
