Any way to disable writing language shifting?

I am on Ubuntu 6.8.0-138-generic, and have multiple languages i can write to. However they constantly update once i use them based on last active language. This introduces a lot of little problems when i need to quickly switch the language, since two spaces over where it used to be German is now English and I might as well toss a coin which language i might get. So is there any way to prevent this…
