something to read: Madeline Cash’s Lost Lambs. Madaline Cash is the author of Earth Angel and Coeditor of Forever Magazine. She released her novel, Lost Lambs earlier this year. This book was on my To Read list for months and finally it is available at the library. In the wake of Lindy West drama, this novel on one families experience of an open marriage is fascinatingly topical. It is creative, funny, and sprinkled with exceptional character details. Lost Lambs would make for a perfect novel for traveling, not too big and not too small & just engaging enough to keep you on the hook as you’re on a plane or on the beach.
something to obsess over: This Dollzmaker website!!!! I’m sorry WHAT! I could not contain my excitement when i found this old school style website designed by artist, Sydney Hirsch. The site offers the perfect nostalgia for dress up games of the 2000s. Please please please indulge yourself in the silliness and sweetness that is dressing up a little virtual doll for the purpose of just play! And send screenshots, I beg you.
something to create: For Earth Day, NASA released a nature typography generator: Landsat Type in your name and the generator will find your name spelled out in natural letter formations captured by Nasa Satellite. It is simple but it is so so cool!
something to wear: RecCreate host, Tay, works part time at the sustainable fashion brand, T.W.I.N. They are fortunate to try out lots of designs from the brand and recently have become obsessed with the jacquard ultra wide leg pant, and wanted to share it all with you! The entire brand is size and gender inclusive which we love & these pants in particular are comfy and cool! Check out their other designs and visit in store in NOLITA.
As summer approaches you may feel like your capacity to do something new is growing. The longer days and summer Friday’s always seems to invite a little more space for creativity or new activities. To fill up your new found free time, there are tons of summer art courses that you can enroll in to participate passively or intentionally throughout the summer. If you would rather not spend your summer sleeping in, or if you would like to spend the summer sleeping in, but waking up just to create, enrolling in a course could be the perfect amount of creative stimulation. Check out some ones that caught our eye here:
Alternative Processing Academy | €451
This Italian based photography workshop community is dedicated to the study of alternative image processes with sustainability and nature top of mind. Expect to learn things like chlorophyll printing, cyanotype printing, and other camera-less photography techniques. The Academy is a self paced course that offers access to an archive of materials and 1:1 guidance from Chiara and the Alternative Processes team. If the academy is out of budget, Alternative Process offers tons of other programming too. Including this Free Masterclass.
The Artist Must Take Sides The Peoples Forum | Sliding Scale-Free
The peoples forum is running a 6 week course on political responsibility of an artist. Each course covers a different topic like: resistance as practice, Artists on the frontlines, censorship & more. There are guest speakers, lectures, and salons! You can take the course virtually and on oyur own schedule, or for those who are local to NY, you can join in person at the Peoples Forum in Midtown. This course has already begun, but you can sign up anytime & enjoy the previous sessions via recording.
Warman Skewl Classes | $150-300
Invest in your writing practice with a new and unique writing class from La Warman. As a Warman Skewl alumni myself, every class I have taken has enhanced my writing practice and introduced me to like minded creatives. Classes usually span a 6-10 week period and would be the perfect way to spend your extra summer free time.
Landscapes with Cody Cook Parrott | Sliding Scale $33-99
Cody Cook Parrott’s creative community, Landscapes, is back! Landscapes is “an experimental co-working group focused on writing and the tasks we do to support the writing life.” You can join this regularly meeting group to engage in whatever creative practice you have, but there is a heavy emphasis on writing. If you want to build or rebuild an investment in your creative practice or writing practice, Landscapes is the perfect mix of collaboration and accountability.
Since I left instagram, my social media vice has become, expectedly, Pinterest. & I am certain that most of you who subscribe to this newsletter have an active Pinterest account too. I am sure lots of us are pinning things like DIY projects, design ideas, style wishlists, and recipe ideas, but in my time spent curating my algorithm I have come across a new Pinterest obsession: Hopecore memes.
Hopecore is defined as uplifting, wholesome content that leaves you with the feeling of happiness, joy, and well HOPE. A direct response to the much more popular doom scroll.
Hopecore memes often take popular meme formats and edit them to include messages of sweetness, joy, love, and a general lust for life. It is the perfect way to whimsy-fy your meme consumption and it has made my experience of social media scrolling much more enjoyable.
Here are some of my recent favorites:
They are silly & sweet, and they make the time i spend on my phone or computer feel more purposeful and just generally kinder. You can simply sprinkle these meme’s into your own Pinterest consumption, share them with your friends when they are feeling down, or make print them out and hang them up for necessary reminders. You can even make your own hopecore memes and share them with your friends or on your social platforms. Might I even suggest, meme making as creative practice.
And finally, everyone should be engaging in hopecore! we deserve it!

To close out May we are hosting a Stitch Club: Beaded Embroidery with the very talented Kadi Flory! Kadi will teach us how to stitch using beads to make the most elegant, colorful, and intricate beaded patches for all your upcycling dreams. You will not be able to stop accessorizing… believe us.
Incense making is back! Last month we made incense with Helen of Kudzu club. It was so popular we HAD to do it again. Learn about the history of incense with Helen Yang who has been making incense with her family for years. Then create your own custom incense sticks and cones in this interactive workshop. Everyone will go home with a collection of homemade incense and a little tea goodie bag too! See you there <3
