As students of Bible prophecy, we are aware of how modern technology points us to the fulfillment of several Tribulation events. For example, in Revelation 11:9 we learn that after the antichrist kills the two witnesses, people from all over the world will “gaze at their dead bodies.” Television, satellites, and 24/7 news networks explain how it’s possible for people all over the world to watch events unfold on the streets of Jerusalem in real time. They will also be able to view this morbid scene on other electronic devices any time they wish to do so.

When it comes to one person controlling all the buying and selling worldwide, just twenty-five years ago I imagined it would happen through an exceedingly large number of participants in every nation who would willingly enforce the dictates of the antichrist. Today, AI, gigantic databases, data centers, and the coming central bank digital currencies not only make it possible, but also likely. The elites already tell us that they plan to use this technology to both monitor and control how people spend their money.

We are far closer to a shooting war with Russia than most people realize. The Russians are extremely upset with the UK, because the UK has been providing long-range attack drones and long-range missiles to the Ukrainians. In recent months, the Ukrainians have been using those drones and missiles to attack very sensitive targets deep inside Russian territory. The Russians are now accusing the UK of being a direct party to the conflict, and they are not so subtly threatening the UK with military retaliation. Of course an attack on the UK would be considered an attack on the entire NATO military alliance, and that could put us right on the brink of the unthinkable.

It would be difficult for me to overstate the seriousness of the crisis that we are potentially facing.

We aren’t hearing about it much in the western media, but the truth is that Russian officials are seething with anger.

Strange objects hovering in the skies, weird creatures, mysterious lights, ghostly encounters, and other bizarre experiences continue to generate headlines. Not that long ago, stories like these were mostly associated with tabloids, late-night radio shows, or obscure corners of the internet. Blurry Creatures and Stranger Theology anyone? IYKYK. “The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.”

That was a claim reportedly made back in 2019 by Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). Of course, doing the math, that means we all have a mere five years left (unless you take a different climate prediction that put the end of the world due to climate change smack-dab in 2026!).

The clip of AOC’s “climate prophecy” has resurfaced because she recently posted a video showing her injecting herself with hormones so she can freeze her eggs to maybe have a child someday. And so people are asking, “If the world is ending in five years—in just 2031—why are you planning to possibly have a baby?” And, of course, the answer is because none of the dire climate predictions of the past have come true and there’s no sign that hers will be an exception to the rule! In fact, I predict it will not come true—unless Jesus returns!

Wisconsin Democrats narrowly avoided nominating an openly democratic-socialist candidate for governor, but perhaps “avoided” deserves an asterisk. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley defeated State Rep. Francesca Hong by less than one percentage point of over 780,000 votes cast. That’s a razor thin margin over Hong, who openly embraces democratic socialism and previously advocated defunding police, abolishing ICE and even abolishing the U.S. Senate. The national media quickly portrayed Crowley’s victory as the Democratic establishment stopping the socialist insurgency. Crowley was the “moderate.” Hong was the socialist. Socialism defeated. Democratic moderation restored. Not so fast.

Crowley rejects the socialist label and campaigns as a pragmatic Democrat. Yet what constitutes a “moderate” Democrat in 2026? Crowley’s own platform proposes opening BadgerCare enrollment to any household that wants it, with government subsidies and sliding-scale premiums. He proposes guaranteeing every family with a child under five a subsidized childcare slot, with costs capped at seven percent of household income and taxpayers covering the rest. He supports universal taxpayer-funded pre-K, increasing government housing assistance, expanding Housing First statewide, raising Wisconsin’s minimum wage to $15 immediately and $20 by 2030, repealing Act 10, restoring full collective bargaining for public employees and increasing government investment in public education. He says he’s not socialist? Really?

That distinction matters. Democratic socialism advances through expanding collective responsibility and government influence over areas traditionally governed by individuals, families, communities and private markets. Hong openly embraced that philosophy. Crowley uses the language of affordability, access, opportunity and investment to promote many policies that move government further into socialism. The media nevertheless places Crowley in the “moderate” column because Hong stood considerably farther left. Perhaps the real story isn’t that Wisconsin Democrats rejected socialism. It is that an openly democratic-socialist candidate came within a whisker of winning, while the candidate identified as the moderate already socialist that would have represented the Democratic Party’s progressive wing not many years ago.

So, has the Democratic Party gone extreme? Wisconsin provides an illuminating answer. Hong came within 3,200 votes of winning. Those Democratic primary voters were willing to make an avowed democratic socialist their nominee for governor of a critical swing state. And the victor demonstrates how far the party’s definition of “moderate” has traveled. Proverbs 14:15 says, “The simple believes every word, But the prudent considers well his steps.” Labels can disguise political movement. “Socialist,” “progressive,” “liberal” and “moderate” matter less than examining what candidates actually propose government should control, provide, subsidize and regulate. Wisconsin Democrats may have appeared to draw a line between socialism and moderation. But that line looks more like a distinction in language than a difference in direction.

There’s an old saying that goes, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” David’s words in Psalm 140 offer compelling evidence of that. David begins the psalm with these words: “O Lord, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long” (verses 1–2 NLT).

“Stirring up trouble all day long” is practically a job description for the influencers, trolls, and others who crowd onto modern social media platforms. No gossip is too salacious, no accusation is too offensive for them to reframe for their own purposes, comment on, and spread to others.

Like David, we are living in a wicked, vicious time. People today have an unhealthy appetite for gossip and slander—anything that makes others look bad. Once upon a time, this was known as a “tabloid mentality.” But the kind of stuff that once could be found only in supermarket tabloids has spread throughout the ranks of journalism and broadcast media. Hard news has been replaced by attacking partisan commentary. Everyone wants the dirt, especially on those they oppose. Social media has accelerated the decline in journalistic and personal integrity. Civility, courtesy, and empathy seem to be nearing extinction.

Take away the technology, and you have a culture that would have been recognizable to David. The “evil people” he referred to in Psalm 140:1 had initiated a carefully planned campaign of slander and lies against him, and it was proving to be effective. You’ve heard the expression, “Good news travels fast.” I suggest to you that bad news travels even faster. It’s been said that a lie is halfway around the world while truth is still putting on its shoes. There’s something about a falsehood that causes it to spread like a wildfire.

James knew what he was talking about when he wrote, “And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself” (James 3:6 NLT).

David understood what our response should be to the trouble that people stir up. In Psalm 25:4–5, he wrote, “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you” (NLT).

As believers, we must reject the lies of the world and learn everything we can about God’s truth. We must ask God to lead us, to help us resist the temptation to fight fire with fire when people stir up trouble.

We need never concern ourselves about people’s reactions when we’re walking in God’s truth.
