Your first five minutes of class are a curriculum, not a warm-up

Walk into a classroom at 7:03 on the first day back and you’ll see the same thing in room after room: backpacks half zipped, one kid already at the pencil sharpener, another asking to use the bathroom before you’ve finished a sentence, three hallway conversations still finishing themselves at full volume.
