A brief reminder: the next meeting of my FREE monthly online feminist writing group is on Monday 3rd August, 8pm-9.30pm (London UK time). Sign up via the button below, and I’ll email out a Zoom link shortly before the group.
AND booking is open for my next residential writing retreat, themed around ‘Making Herstory’: researching and writing women’s history, whether you’re writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama or other genres. For more information and to book, please click on this link. I’d love to meet you in person, and the retreats are great fun and very life-affirming!
We’re still here, camping on the shores of Lake Maggiore in northern Italy, and I’m slowly relaxing into holiday mode. It’s taken me 5 days to stop startling at random times of day and night, in a blind panic that there’s something Terribly Important I’ve forgotten to do. It’s pretty wonderful to realise that the most pressing issue of the day is to remember to buy baguette before the campsite shop closes for siesta time.
In case you missed my previous post, I’m here with my 3 daughters for 2 weeks, and we’ve brought all our camping gear from Yorkshire to Lake Maggiore on the train. It’s taken a lot of planning in order to alight upon a camping set-up which is both comfortable and ultra-portable, so I thought I’d share details of the kit we’ve chosen and how it’s working out, in case it’s useful to any readers who are also camping and adventure enthusiasts. Or, for that matter, to anyone who is simply looking for a portable coffee maker to keep in their bag, for those times when you’re desperate for a cup but there’s only a Nespresso machine - and no pods - available.
In my earlier post, I described our sleeping arrangements and, in this one, I’m going to list the elements of our kitchen and dining set-up. So if you’re in the market for some tried-and-tested ultralight, ultra-packable camping cookware, crockery, tables and chairs, and storage solutions, I hope you’ll find some good ideas below.
In the next and final post of this short series, I’ll provide details of everything else we’ve brought for general comfort and enjoyment, including ultralight sun-loungers, a badminton set, lighting, and SUP gear. I hope it’s all helpful in planning your own ultralight adventures!
