Proskii · Tastes Like a Cheat Meal

Hello Broskiis!

Welcome to the thirty-third edition of Tastes Like a Cheat Meal. You can read the others here – https://newsletter.proskii.in/ & https://proskii.substack.com

If you’re new here, this is Proskii’s weekly newsletter. Both me (Yash) and Rohit hate long emails, so we keep these short and promise not to spam your loving soul.

SACH MAI!! AMRITSARI CHOLE KULCHO KI KASAM.

Don't fix it. Witness it. I'm performing. 🍿😭✨

Not what you ordered.

Why you ordered it.

Were you actually hungry — or just done.

That moment you opened Swiggy — the app had already seen it coming.

Not that night. But that pattern. Your pattern.

Every order. Every time you opened the app and closed it.
Every notification you ignored and every one you didn’t.

All logged.

The app knows you order differently on salary day than you do on the 28th.
It knows Friday-you and Monday-you are different people.

The 7pm notification after your meeting ends — not random.
The “reorder in one tap” on Sunday evening — not convenient. Calculated.
The discount when your willpower is lowest — they knew.

The app doesn’t know your favourite food.

It knows your weakest moments.

Your brain runs two systems.

One is slow and logical. I should cook, it’s healthier.

One is fast and emotional. I just need something now.

Stress spikes your cortisol. But, it doesn’t make you hungry.
It makes convenience irresistible.

You’re not weak in that moment. You’re just running on a different operating system.

The apps didn’t study neuroscience. They studied millions of people like you — and the data told them exactly when that switch flips.

Yeh coincidence nahi. Yeh A/B tested hai.

Morning — real intentions. Eat well, the whole plan.
Afternoon — busy, skipped breakfast, ordered lunch.
4pm — drained. A notification arrives. You open it. Just to check.
8pm — meant to cook. Didn’t. One tap.
11pm — not hungry. Just awake. App already open.

You thought you were deciding what to eat.

The app was deciding when you’d decide.

Not deleting the app.

Just — next time a notification lands at exactly the wrong moment, notice it.

The craving didn’t appear from nowhere. It was nudged.

That one second of catching it is enough.

The goal isn’t to beat the algorithm.
Just notice when it’s playing.
That’s usually enough.

The algorithm: 1. Rohit: 0.

Peanut Butter is back.

We repeat.

Peanut Butter is back.

Please remain calm. Or don’t.

The peanut butter people certainly won't — proskii.in
