Mistaken Toy Identities

A bit of toy identity fun. This week I caught Brave New World, the new Captain America flick with the red Hulk. In it is a character Marvel call the Leader in the comics. A toy figure based on the big bonce looks like this. In the movie Marvel decided to go for this look for the Leader. Now I don't know about you but that movie look looks a heckuva lot like Ideal's 1960's Dr. Evil action doll,…

Mystery Toy Parts

I recently picked up a bag of loose parts. These two toy parts remain a mystery. Any clues readers?

The Snow on the Telly

I seem to recall the test card was followed by snow on the telly. Snow. That odd fuzzy whiteness peppering the screen with its stzzssssssss hiss. Interference. But from whom? Quite creepy really, especially when you were told by someone that it was the background radiation from the Big Bang! Cosmic! The end of the TV day took us the beginning of time! How cool was that? Do you remember TV snow…

I Remember the Test Card

When tellies were still young in the UK there was a test card. I remember it so well, as much as I remember my fave TV shows. Trouble is, I don't know why I know the test card because it only appeared at midnight or thereabouts. The end of telly. The cut-off point until the morrow. Was I up at midnight or did the test card go right into my teens and beyond in the Seventies? I recall my old Dad…

Bear Essentials

The Grandkids have gone home but not without leaving us their creations by both Little Miss and Junior Moonbases. Basic lego house, Shogun van, Lilo and Stitch mobile, Where's Wally Car and Plex plax tower. Little Miss Moonbase also put together this gorgeous mini teddy bear bedroom for three bears. Hope you like it. 🧸🧸🧸

For Your Eyes Only ( well, you can blog if you like!)

Hi Woodsy! I really love Moonbase, as much as I'm being turned off Facebook and Instagram, I really enjoy the community of your blog. I've almost got the first five puppets I need for my first filmed sequence. As is fitting for my non-linear production schedule, I've already mocked up an Australian 60's style Daybill poster. At that time they tended to go for hand drawn lithographic images,…

ELF on the shelf

Hello Woodsy, your ELF store display link for the Lincoln Thunderbirds toys peeked my interest. I couldn't find a lot of information, but it certainly was a thing back in the day. One of my research resources was a fascinating blog called space base - or something! https://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2022/10/still-in-good-elf-wooden-tracy-island.html?m=1 I love those Old School production…

Stingray Pizza with Sides

I'm amazed by these Pizza Hut cups from 1992. I knew about the Stingray one but the other three are a surprise, especially the two strange craft I don't recall, alongside the Terrorfish. Do you know them?

Bill Ev's Thunderbirds Fun with AI

Woodsy, I know it's fashionable to criticise AI. But I see it as simply an extension of the creative process. Really not too different to an electric guitar, or a sequenced synthesiser, or 3D printing as opposed to carving. [And I am both a musician and a qualified fine arts artist] and I don't object to AI... But I digress. Here are some AI sequenced photos of our stringed friends, processed to…

S H O G U N

Spending time with the Grandkids over the summer holidays, Moonbase Junior has just whipped up this nifty Lego camper. He calls it Shogun on account of the Ninja driving it. He hopes you like it.

Victorian Ron Embleton

I saw this block print of Victorian kids in a junk shop recently. It might be called Eggy Peggy. I instantly recognized it as Ron Embleton's work. His signature's there too. I think this is one of a suite of similar paintings Ron did. Having grown up with TV21 and The Book of Battles I know and love his unique wonderful style. Do you like it? Years ago for our first blog anniversary finale, when…

Milk Jelly and Friends

The Missus mentioned Milk Jelly this morning. Wow! I so remember it. Jelly made with milk. Blimey, was that delicious when I was a kid. I may just have to make some again! Remember it? It got me thinking about other past sweets, puddings and afters. Instant Whip - my favourite milk pud as a kid, the best being butterscotch. I guess it's a lost brand now. Birds Dream Topping - Lordy, how I adored…

Ed's New Space Glider

Woodsy During the past few weeks, a couple of instances of synchronicity occurred. One of those was when you posted about space gliders and although I didn't have any large ones like the ones you posted, I did have a couple small ones of the Tri-ang/LP variety. I remember thinking how cool it would be to add one of the larger kind to the Project SWORD fleet. Welll, within a day this glider…

Boostered! Atomic Rockets Run-Down

Here's a fabulous run down of Mars rocketships including our very own Project SWORD Booster Rocket on Moonbase Central! Realistic Designs R-Z - Atomic Rockets https://share.google/litPvv0AvSk6EJERO

Blast-Off Space Rocket: Pumped Up!

There's a lot going on on the card art of this air and water rocket and that's just the bit we can see. There's a powerful looking space plane bottom right, which looks great, but it's the two firing units further up that intrigue me. What are they? Nacelles? They look like they're contained within a gantry of sorts. And I wonder what that craft is behind the toy. There's a hint of Thunderbird 2!…
