Meet Alejandro Puente, the handsome gay actor 'opening a path' for Latin LGBTQ+ representation

Alejandro Puente is carving his own lane in the entertainment industry.

The handsome actor had his major breakthrough by starring as Rafa in the hit Netflix series Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar (No One Will Miss Us). In the series, Puente plays a gay character who falls in love in high school.

The second season is now streaming on Prime Video and Mexican fans are praising the show for the authentic queer representation on screen. Fans are resonating with Rafa's journey of accepting his sexuality and navigating a gay relationship at young age.

"It's the first time in Mexican television in which a gay couple is portrayed as a regular couple in a very loving, nondramatic way. It's a big step for Mexican television. It's time for us to tell stories about the queer community. We don't have to be segregated in every single way," Puente tells Out.

Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar has led worldwide LGBTQ+ representation when it pertains to young people. The hit series joins an impressive international catalog of queer shows focused on high school that also includes Heartstopper, Elite, Young Royals, Sex Education, and more.

"We are the Heartstopper from Latin America! Everyone loves these characters. We're so happy to be portraying them. I love them so much. I have a responsibility now with those characters! Younger generations have resonated with them because they are pure love. The relationship they have is beautiful."

Although there are quite a few notable queer shows to binge on multiple platforms, Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar is a standout series for opening minds to LGBTQ+ relationships in Latin America.

"I didn't have the show that I'm doing right now and I wish I had something like this before. People growing into their adulthood and getting to understand themselves is amazing. We are opening a path for a new generation. We're here and we love you! We're ready for you to come into this world."

Puente is ready to tell more queer stories outside of the success of Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar. He's also starring in another untitled Netflix series currently in production that'll resonate with a global LGBTQ+ audience.

"After meeting some fans, the parents of the kids are just as important as they are. They are also learning about being a young queer kid in Mexico! It's the reason I do what I do. I'm an actor for my generation and telling the stories that need to be told."
