I just wrapped a mastermind with a billionaire and 15 executives in Nebraska.

I decided to stay in Nebraska and in four days I go into five days of total darkness.

No phone, no light, no noise, just me and whatever’s actually running my decisions.

Here’s what hit me on the way out of that mastermind: I spent years thinking I had to build alone. Figure it out myself. Carry the whole thing on my back and call it discipline.

And to take it even further when I ran my first half Ironman. I completed alone. And the win was no where as great when I finished other Ironman with support.

I was wrong. And if you’ve been running your business the same way, so are you.

Nobody builds anything worth building alone. Not the founders you admire, not the operators you’re trying to become, not the guy heading into the dark in a few days. Every one of us needed a room full of people who were further along, asking better questions than we knew to ask ourselves.

Isolation kills momentum. It doesn’t announce itself it just shows up as a slower decision here, a problem you sit on instead of solve, a plan you keep polishing instead of shipping. You don’t notice you’re isolated. You just notice you’re stuck.
