Matthieu Blazy's highly-coveted first collection for Chanel has officially hit The RealReal, with resale listings reaching 2x retail. A good sign for the house for continued buzz and appreciation, but a bad sign for your budget if you were waiting on secondhand!
Trosort, who took home eBay’s Circular Fashion Fund award this year, is bringing their complete “Sort Mate” textile sorting machine to the international Textiles Recycling Expo in Brussels (June 24-25). “Last year we came with slides,” the team wrote, “this year we're coming with the machine!”
I worked with ABC News on a piece about the vintage soccer jersey market, which is heating up amidst the World Cup. What's happening in vintage "kits" largely mirrors what's happening in designer and vintage fashion writ large: people want the authentic nostalgia item, not the “re-release” — but big sportswear brands are trying that route anyway. eBay wrote me this week to say global searches for "World Cup merch" are up 770% year-over-year, and "FIFA World Cup jersey vintage" is up more than 200%. Collectors are largely hunting for soccer jerseys that evoke a specific era — often 80s and 90s — maybe when they fell in love with a team, a player, or the sport itself.
Speaking of sportswear, I’ve been watching a lot of baseball this summer and cannot escape the MLB Auction House ads. Signed jerseys and game-used balls at auctions certainly aren't new, but (I feel) the aggressive push to a general consumer audience is. Auctions are a big business, though — and especially with growing interest in Japan: earlier this spring, the jersey Shohei Ohtani wore for Team Japan in the 2026 World Baseball Classic sold for a record-setting $1,500,010.
Fashionphile tipped me off that they’ve tracked triple and quadruple-digit traffic spikes for animal print summer bags in the resale market, with specific searches for “snakeskin bags” up 17,600%, “zebra print” up 3,583%, “cow print” up 208% year over year. Seems like “quiet luxury” had a good run, but is now clearly long in the rearview mirror.
