Pradumna Saraf · The Open Letter by Pradumna Saraf

Welcome to the very first release of The Open Letter. I am more than excited to finally bring this newsletter together and publish it (So happy while writing this). This edition will be small, sharing some news, my recent blogs and the upcoming conference I am joining (Spoiler Alert: I will be speaking at one of them).

So, a couple of things happened in the past weeks and last month I think it’s worth mentioning:

  • Happy birthday, Go! Golang celebrated its 15th anniversary as an open source release. You can read the official blog about that here.

  • Prometheus 3.0 beta was released at PromCon in Berlin. It is the first major release in seven years, yes seven years! It comes with a lot of improvements and feature additions. Here is the release blog

  • We have an official statement for “open source AI” from the Open Source Initiative. We recently saw more companies and products position and market themselves as open source AI/models/LLMs, so it’s crucial to draw a line between which one is open source and which one is not. You can read about it here.

One of the coolest things I saw two to three weeks back on Twitter (always be a Twitter) was running macOS inside a Docker container and accessing it from the browser. My initial reaction was What? How it’s even possible? Here it is; this whole project is open source. Here is the GitHub link. Whether it’s legal or not is a different topic, and of course, we’re not getting into that—but it’s cool.

Talking about the conferences specifically about KubeCon, KubeCon NA was a blast and you have already seen the amazing pictures on your social feed. And, now the buzz started for KubeCon India, happening in Delhi in December. I will be there. I will also attend the Maintainer Summit and SOSS Community Day India, which is happening a day before KubeCon India as a CNCF co-hosted event. At the SOCC event, I will give a talk on container security. Here is the schedule for that. If you are around any of those events feel free to connect.

Some of my recent blog publications:

In case you are wondering how to get this email because you haven’t subscribed. Good question. I have shifted from the Hashnode newsletter to this platform and imported all the email contacts :)

Thank you so much for reading the first publication and subscribing to it. If you want to connect with me or have any feedback to share, I would love to hear that. Here is the link. See you in the next one. — Pradumna Saraf
