In the wake of major comics distribution platforms (Diamond) disappearing, POWER PULP (powerpulpcomics.com) has emerged as the choice for many of the industry’s top self-published creators to distribute their work. As it moves into its second year, POWER PULP, the creator collective and distributor, is leading the way that shops and fans are getting new creator-owned works.
“The first year went better than we could have possibly expected and we have many new and exciting things planned for the future,” said JOHN COATS, CFO.
In just one year, POWER PULP has grown from seven to more than 60 POWER PULP MEMBERS, with books in more than 30 shops. Some new members include Rick Veitch, Katie Skelly, Ryan Heshka, Audra Stang and the numbers continue to grow.
“It’s been a wildfire success and the caliber of creators, both known and unknown, wanting to be a part of this was beyond our most hopeful expectations and continues to demonstrate that we are trending in the right direction.” says Chris Anderson, CEO.
The Eisner Awards recognized PULP MEMBERS, JESSE LONERGAN (BEST GRAPHIC ALBUM—NEW- winner for DROME) and JOHN KELLY (BEST COMICS-RELATED PERIODICAL/JOURNALISM- nomination for DUMMY).
In this second year, along with bringing you some of the best and most creative works of the 21st century, we are also putting in a huge effort to build and facilitate a community around comics culture. We have partnered with the MAKE MORE COMICS GRANT to find new and exciting works in comics that need to be made. We created the POWER PULP COMMUNITY discord (https://discord.gg/hTj6rZ55C) where more than 250 active members share their works, talk shop, and encourage one another to keep making comics! We have launched two Youtube channels: POWER PULP COMICS(https://www.youtube.com/@PowerPulpComics) and POWER PULP LIVE(https://www.youtube.com/@PowerPulpLive) with different programming centered around making comics and comics culture.
Comics is a business of pivots and with each month we change and grow to fit the demands of the industry. However, after this first year we are no longer fighting the month to month grind. With our feet planted on the ground we have the time and ability to shift some focus to the long term thinking. Recently, we got a warehouse and rebuilt our website with easier search engines and a more accessible interface. (powerpulpcomics.com). This is a time for fostering the growth of our relationships with retailers and fans. And we look forward to sharing with you all that the future holds.
